Admissions Counselor

Alderson-Broaddus College is seeking an Admissions Counselor.

The successful candidate will join a staff responsible for recruiting first-time freshmen and transfer students to Alderson-Broaddus College through various on-and off-campus programs and events. This includes travel for high school visits, parent/student gatherings, interview prospective students; evaluate applications and management of an assigned territory. Bachelor's degree required, admission or related professional experience preferred; excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communications skills; ability to understand the goals and objectives of students and provide appropriate counsel to students and families; self-motivated with ability to adapt to changing situations while striving to meet goals and objectives; willingness to travel extensively, including evenings and weekends.

Faculty Position - Chemistry

Alderson-Broaddus College seeks applications for an Assistant-Associate Professor of Chemistry (nine-month tenure track) to begin August 15th, 2009.  M.S. required, Ph.D. preferred. The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and may teach courses in analytical, instrumental, physical, environmental, and organic chemistry.  Involvement in undergraduate research and Senior projects expected.

Provost/Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs

Alderson-Broaddus College is accepting applications for the position of Provost/Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs.

The Provost/Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs is the chief academic officer of the College. The Provost/Executive Vice President is responsible for the academic program and the work of the faculty. The Provost/Executive Vice President provides leadership in all academic aspects of the institution, while maintaining the quality, accreditation, and integrity of the academic programs. The Provost/Executive Vice President serves as a member of the president’s staff, facilitates and coordinates cross-divisional assignments and activities of college vice-presidents, functions as chief executive officer when the president is absent or when assigned by the president, and  is an active participant in budget, strategic planning and policy decisions.

Reporting Line: The Provost/Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs reports to the College President.

Some of the duties of the Provost/Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs are to: Oversee the faculty governance system, including the committee system; monitor the provision and evaluation of academic advising services; serve on the following college standing committees: Budget, Admissions and Retention, Committee on Committees, Institutional Assessment Committee, and on other committees as appropriate; chair the Academic Program Committee, the Tenure, Promotion, and Sabbatical Leaves Committee, the Gifts and Grants Committee, and the HLC Assessment Academy Team; provide recommendations for faculty and staff hiring, retention, and promotion to the President; lead the recruiting, hiring, and orientation of faculty members; within appropriate processes, evaluate the faculty, render recommendations for improvement, and report such evaluations to the President for action; serve as an advocate of the faculty and students to the President’s Staff, the  President, and the Board of Trustees; serve as an advocate of the administration to the faculty and students when appropriate; maintain a vision and tone for academic excellence; support faculty and staff development and secure adequate resources for professional development; respond appropriately to student concerns and complaints; plan, prepare and implement the annual faculty/staff workshop; supervise the following non-instructional areas: registrar, director of learning resources, director of learning and assessment, director of athletics, director of library services, and special academic programs; oversee the preparation of academic budgets for submission to the Budget Committee; monitor the academic budget expenditure levels throughout the year and assure stewardship and positive budget outcomes; monitor faculty work load; recommend compensation for faculty and staff to the President implementing the faculty salary equity plan; maintain the relationship of the college with the Council of Independent Colleges and the Appalachian College Association; work with appropriate personnel to insure continued institutional and program accreditations; provide representation of the institution for off-campus events and programs as assigned by the President; participate in the College’s strategic planning process, and facilitate planning for new academic programs; and, represent the College with appropriate decorum and dignity

Education:

Doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution

Required Related Work Experience:

·    College teaching experience – 5 years
·    Demonstrated college administrative experience at the division, department, or program level

Faculty Position - Nursing

Alderson-Broaddus College seeks applications for a faculty member in the nursing department. The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and to the philosophy of the Department of Nursing and the mission of the college, participating in departmental committees and activities per assignment.  The candidate is also expected to stay current in one’s field and continue professional growth. Current membership in ANA or NLN is expected.

Other Duties/Responsibilities:

Participate in nursing curriculum development, implementation, evaluation and revision demonstrating awareness of curricular concepts in teaching actions,

Demonstrate knowledge and clinical ability appropriate to the clinical area of instruction.  Increase knowledge through clinical practice, continuing professional education and professional development.

Actively participate in self, peer, and supervisor evaluation processes, striving to accommodate personal feedback which would enhance professional growth.

Academically advise designated students as assigned by the Chairperson of the Department of Nursing or college requirements.  Assist student’s access to Campus Life resources and services.  Post a minimum of 5 office hours weekly.

Annually provide current WV nursing license number for visualization, maintain current CPR certification, immunizations records, yearly PPD or chest X-Ray results, “Statement of Health Status, history and physical form, and completed record of hepatitis vaccination or statement of refusal.

Minimum Qualifications:  Masters degree in nursing, preferably in a defined clinical specialty area.  Two years experience in nursing.  Teaching experience desired.

Simulation Lab Coordinator - Department of Nursing

Alderson-Broaddus College seeks applications for a Simulation Lab Coordinator to coordinate and manage a variety of activities involved in operating the Simulation Lab. The successful candidate will participate in the development, coordination, and implementation of simulator training to healthcare professionals, develop and conduct complex simulation exercises and perform analysis and provide technical reports. The candidate will also serve as a liaison for the Simulator Lab concerning design, application, operation, maintenance, training, reliability and performance of simulator, computer and audiovisual instrumentation.

Other Duties/Responsibilities
Perform analysis, design development, modification, specifications, standards, and equipment testing and evaluation of simulator, computer, and audiovisual equipment

Procure, install, configure, operate, and maintain simulator, computer, and audiovisual equipment for the Simulator Lab.
Schedule and coordinate Simulator Lab activities and training.
Coordinate and assist in the preparation of simulation presentations.
Develop and implement a maintenance plan for the simulator to include troubleshooting, standard maintenance and supply acquisition (fake blood, urine, blood products, patient charts, etc.)
Develop and recommend short and long-range goals for the development of the simulation laboratory to include a literature base on simulation and scenario library.
Collaborate with health care professionals and other personnel to develop and coordinate education, laboratory, and research projects.
Review journals, abstracts, and scientific literature in existing and emerging simulation application technologies, including underlying educational principals.
Supervise and train other professional and technical personnel as students in selected technical aspects of simulation.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Minimum Qualifications: BSN and two years of patient care experience.

Faculty Position - Nursing (Psychiatric/Mental Health)

Alderson-Broaddus College seeks applications for a nine-month tenure track faculty position in the Nursing Department to begin August 2009.

Minimum Qualificiations: Candidate must possess a master’s degree in nursing or be willing to earn a master’s degree within 3 years of begin hired, have at least three years of Psychiatric/Mental Health clinical experience, and must possess or be eligible for West Virginia Nursing licensure.  Collegiate teaching experience is preferred.
