Faculty Member - Math Department

Faculty Member - Education Department

Assistant Director of Residence Life and Resident Director

General Description:
The Division of Campus Life and the Department of Residence Life provide programs and activities in a comfortable, convenient, and supportive living environment that fosters’ campus involvement and active learning within a diverse community.

The Assistant Director of Residence Life works with the residence life staff to establish the goals and direction for supervision of staff positions, staff training and development, assessment, recruitment and selection, housing operations and health and safety.

Essential Functions:
Fundamental job responsibilities for the Assistant Director position include (1) Help manage the physical conditions of all residence hall facilities; (2) Facilitate the Battler Pride program; (3) Maintain the housing for all residential students; (4) Serve as the bridge between the other Resident Directors (RD’s), Assistant Resident Directors (ARD’s), and Resident Assistants (RA’s) and the Director of Residence Life.

Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities include recruitment, selection, training and supervision of the ARDs and RDs.  Responsible for the administrative details related ot the operation of the residence halls, staff training and development, assessment, recruitment and selection, and health and safety.  Additional responsibilities include directing, coordinating, implementing, and assisting with student and staff development functions in the areas of personnel, staff supervision, and customer service.

Specific Duties:
   * Participate as an integral member of a team that includes the Assistant Director, Director of Residence Life, ARDs, and RDs.
    * Participate as an integral member of the Campus Life Division.
    * Work closely with the physical plant, security, and the business office.
    * Create and implement strategies, services and programs that assist in fostering the mission of the Campus Life Division and Alderson-Broaddus College.
    * Recruit, select, train, supervise and develop the residence life staff.
    * Available on weekday and weekend duty nights which may include holidays and other special events.
    * Assessment and data gathering functions for Residence Life.  This includes but is not limited to fire drills, health and safety inspections, RA training and in-services, programming, and housing operations.
    * Assist with the continuous development and implementation of goals and objectives for the Department of Residence Life.
    * Participate in professional development through training, committee involvement, conference attendance, and involvement in professional associations.
    * Provide consultation, counseling, guidance and referrals to individuals and student groups.
    * Perform delegated duties as assigned by the Director of Residence Life.

Requirements:
Preference given to candidates who possess a Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education Administration, or Educational Leadership, and have 2 years related experience in managing a residence hall.  Preference given to applicants who have prior live-in experience, and residence hall management including supervision, training, programming, and student leadership development.

Candidates must possess excellent organizational, time management and training skills and must support the principles of student learning and community development.  Additionally, candidates will be expected to demonstrate exceptional oral and written abilities.

Remuneration:
The Assistant Director of Residence Life is a 12-month appointment provided the individual is returning to work the following academic year. This position includes a competitive salary, plus room, board and other college benefits.  Staff members accumulate annual vacation and sick leave in addition to the official holidays acknowledged by Alderson-Broaddus College.
