The Alderson-Broaddus College Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) provides educational opportunities to prepare qualified undergraduate students for a career as an entry-level certified athletic trainer. The Athletic Training Education Program is structured according to competencies provided by the National Athletic Trainer's Association (NATA) and the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). The program is committed to providing structured didactic and clinical experiences to enhance the athletic training student's knowledge of and appreciation for the profession.
The underlying philosophy of the Athletic Training Education Program corresponds with that of our host institution. We seek to prepare students with a comprehensive liberal arts education aimed at promoting better personal, social, spiritual, cultural, and mental adjustments. The faculty and athletic training students are expected to maintain the highest standards of quality consistent with the National Athletic Trainer's Association Code of Ethics.
The Athletic Training Education Program is committed to an ongoing self-evaluation to ensure our students are receiving the highest quality education possible.

Program Goals and Objectives
1. To provide educational opportunities to prepare qualified undergraduate students for a career as an entry-level certified athletic trainer.
a. Through structured didactic and clinical educational experiences, students will be exposed to the skills necessary to become certified by the NATABOC.
b. Students will become proficient in the athletic training educational competencies.
2. To promote the professional growth and development of each individual student who will contribute in a positive manner to the profession of athletic training.
a. Students will be encouraged to become active members of national and state athletic training associations, as well as, other professional organizations.
b. Students will be encouraged to attend national and state meetings and clinical symposiums.
3. To develop competent, well-rounded students using a comprehensive liberal arts education integrated with an exceptional athletic training education.
a. Students will be exposed to a variety of courses aimed at promoting better personal, social, spiritual, cultural, and mental adjustments.
b. Liberal arts courses will serve as the foundation for athletic training education.
4. To encourage young professionals to abide by high personal and professional ethical standards.
a. Students will be expected to follow the NATA Code of Ethics.
b. Faculty members will set the standard for students to follow.
5. To ensure that students are receiving the highest quality education possible.
a. The program will conduct ongoing self-evaluations to ensure that goals and objectives are being met.
b. Faculty members will stay abreast of current pedagogical issues related to athletic training.
6. To establish the program as the leader in athletic training education in West Virginia.
a. Faculty members will ensure that all aspects of the athletic training education program meet the highest standards of excellence.
