Recreational Sports Management
The Recreational Sports Management major prepares students for positions in leisure, recreation and sports related human service professions—from community-based programs to corporations to competitive sports leagues. Through a framework of interdisciplinary study, which includes classes in both the business and recreation departments, this unique curriculum provides flexibility that responds to individual student interests and professional goals.
In addition to their regular coursework, recreational sports management majors are expected to complete several assistantships, which can range from field management to event management to distribution of sports information. Students in this major have the opportunity to assist with the college’s athletic teams in these areas, as well as visit and work with other facilities that offer recreational programs starting as early as freshman year.
In summary, the goal of the recreational sports management major is to provide a professional and liberal arts-based education that develops students’ abilities to improve and enhance the quality of life for the individuals and groups that they serve.
