At the plate A-B was led by Freshman Jeremy Conley and Junior Paul Hackett, who each recorded two hits. Sophomore Bobby McLaughlin drove in a pair of runs.

(PRINCETON, W.Va.)---WVIAC baseball coaches have awarded top 2010 player honors to Concord's Greyson Schram and Wheeling Jesuit's Noah Mull. Alderson-Broaddus' Bill Barr and West Virginia Wesleyan's Randy Tenney were recognized by their peers as the conference's co-Coaches of the Year.
Schram earned WVIAC Player and Hitter of the Year honors, while Mull took the hardware for league Pitcher of the Year accolades.
Schram recorded a regular season WVIAC triple crown, leading the league with a .530 batting average, 18 home runs, and 77 runs batted in. The Stanley, NC senior tops Division II in batting average, runs batted in per game, slugging percentage (1.130), and on-base percentage (.612). His 0.51 homers per game rank second nationally. The slugging second baseman is a key reason for Concord's 28-7 overall record and an offense that averages over 11 runs per outing.
Mull has been overpowering for much of the 2010 campaign, posting a 7-1 record with a WVIAC-best 2.09 earned run average. The Wheeling native has limited opponents to a .194 batting average and ranks second in Division II with 13.02 strikeouts per nine innings. He owns four complete games with a pair of shutouts. The former Wheeling Central HS star has fanned 81 hitters compared to only 39 hits and 21 walks in 56.0 innings pitched.
Barr took over an A-B squad that was expected to finish fourth in the Central Division and led it to a 27-12 overall mark. The Battlers' 13-3 Central Division record was good enough for a divisional title and the Battlers are currently ranked tenth in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's Atlantic Region top ten.
Tenney has guided Wesleyan to 21 straight victories entering the WVIAC Tournament. The 29-10 Bobcats finished Central Division play at 12-4, good for second in the division. The veteran head coach previously won league coaching honors in 1991, 1992, and 1999. The Buckhannon native owns a 610-362 record in 24 seasons as the Wesleyan head coach. He still owns the WVWC single-season (29) and career (78) records for stolen bases.
Davis & Elkins senior infielder Josh Lopez was selected by conference coaches to receive the Shannon Stewart Heart and Hustle Award.
The starting pitchers on the 2010 All-WVIAC first team are Mull, Davis & Elkins' Zach McElroy, Seton Hill's Brian Warheit, and Alderson-Broaddus' unbeaten Ronnie Whitt. West Virginia State's Evan Kendall, who is 4-0 with five saves, is the relief pitcher.
Seton Hill slugger Pat Trettel is the catcher after accounting for a school single-season record 71 runs batted in. The right side of the first team infield has combined for 30 home runs with Schram holding down second base and Shepherd's Nate Minnich at first base. The remainder of the infield consists of shortstops Donovan Huffer (Concord) and Caigan O'Callahan (Davis & Elkins), along with West Virginia Wesleyan's Matt Coker at third base.
The outfield is patrolled by Charleston's Andrew Armstrong, West Virginia Wesleyan's Corey Flickinger, West Virginia State's Bo Darby, and Concord's Keith Morrisroe, the Division II leader in runs scored per game. West Virginia State's Ryne Holstine, a first team honoree as a pitcher last season, is the designated hitter.
Holstine, Trettel, Huffer, and Darby are repeat selections from the 2009 top squad. Darby also earned first team honors in 2008, as did Schram.

(JOHNSTOWN, PA)---Concord's slumbering bats woke up with a vengance as the Mountain Lions scored 11 times in the final two innings of a 13-5 WVIAC Tournament victory against Alderson-Broaddus.
CU snapped a nine-game post-season losing skid by posting five runs in the eighth frame and six more in the ninth as the Mountain Lions erased a 4-2 A-B advantage.
Tyler Beard's two-run homer to left tied the game at 4-4 in the eighth for CU. Keith Morrisroe followed with a single and Concord then took the lead for good on Donovan Huffer's triple to the right-center field gap.
A three-run Brooks Cullen homer, along with run-scoring singles by Morrisroe and Huffer sparked the six-run ninth for the Mountain Lions.
Beard, Morrisroe, and Huffer each had three safeties each for CU's 17-hit attack. Cullen and Devin Smith had two base knocks apiece. WVIAC Player of the Year Greyson Schram went 1-for-4, but the hit was a long home run to center field in the second inning to account for the first Mountain Lion run.
Mark Ruiz, Ronnie Whitt, Gary Valadez, Matthew Markosky, and Scott Jarvis all ended with two hits apiece for A-B. Ruiz had given the Battlers a 4-2 lead in the fourth inning with a two-run double.
Reliever Drew Bailey earned the decision for Concord with five strong innings out of the Mountain Lion bullpen. He scattered five hits and gave up one run, striking out four and walking none.
Derek McDowell, the second of four Battler hurlers, gave up four runs and three hits in 1 1/3 innings and was saddled with the defeat.
Both starters struggled with high pitch counts. A-B's Ronnie Whitt only allowed six hits and an earned run in six innings of work, but threw nearly 120 pitches after walking four and fanning three. Concord's Trey Smith departed after four frames. He was responsible for four runs and eight hits.
Concord advances to face Seton Hill or West Virginia Wesleyan in tomorrow evening's 7:30 p.m. winner's bracket matchup. Alderson-Broaddus squares off with Pitt Johnstown in a noon elimination game.

The Alderson-Broaddus baseball team captured its first division title in school history with a series of victories this week. The Battlers swept all four of their contests to clinch the Central Division and earn a spot in next week’s WVIAC tournament.
The Battlers traveled to Ohio Valley on April 20 for a double header against the Fighting Scots. A-B jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first, and would never relinquish it as Coach Bill Barr’s team cruised to an 11-5 victory. Outfielder Bobby Mapes led the way for A-B, going 3-4 with three RBIs. Fellow junior Derek Patsy also contributed three RBIs and two runs after going 1-1 and being walked twice. A-B recorded seven hits and ten walks overall. Pedro Castellanos earned the win in four innings of work after giving up only one earned run on seven hits and striking out five. Derek McDowell also gave a solid effort on the mound, also giving up one earned run on three hits and striking out three.
A-B would also win the nightcap, 10-9, despite being outhit by the Fighting Scots, 9-6. Matt Paul led the Battlers at the plate, finishing 2-2 with a homerun and three RBIs. First baseman Justin Combs also added two hits, which were both solo homers, to give him a pair of RBIs and three runs scored. Patsy earned the win in four innings of work by giving up seven earned runs on six hits. Ronnie Whitt picked up the save in the final two innings, striking out five and giving up two earned runs on two hits.
After the sweep of OVU, A-B looked to secure its division title in a makeup game against Fairmont State University on April 24. The Battlers would take an early lead in the second inning on a pair of costly errors by the Falcons. Paul would score the first run for A-B after Scott Jarvis was walked with the bases loaded. Jarvis would later score the only earned run of the inning, just prior to Justin Anderson reaching home on an error by Fairmont State’s catcher. The Falcons would cut their deficit to two by scoring their first run in the third, but A-B would answer with a four-run fourth to secure the win. With two outs, shortstop Mark Ruiz notched a single, followed by a pair of walks of A-B’s Trevor Funk and Ronnie Whitt. Catcher Gary Valadez would then nail a grand slam homer to allow A-B to cruise to a 7-3 win. Whitt earned the win in a complete game effort, giving up three earned runs and striking out six.
In game two, A-B jumped out to another early lead after two innings. Whitt recorded a three-run homer in the first, followed by the Battlers posting four runs in the second with two outs. The Falcons would take a 7-5 lead after a big fourth inning, but A-B would answer with a huge inning of their own. Four hits, including another grand slam by Valadez, and a pair of errors by Fairmont, would allow eight Battlers to cross the plate in the fifth and give the visitors the lead for good. A-B would go on to win the contest 15-10 behind the offense of Valadez, who drove in six runs on a 2-4 effort. Patsy also finished 2-4, including a two-run shot in the seventh to ice the win.
A-B will be off until their opening contest of the conference tournament, which kicks off on Thursday May 6 at Point Stadium in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. The Battlers will face the South Division runner-up, Concord University in the second contest of the tournament, which is slated to start at 3:30 PM. Win or lose, A-B will return to action the following afternoon. Complete brackets and results can be found at www.wviac.org.

April 13, 2010
(Philippi, WV) -- The Battlers Baseball Team watched a huge early lead evaporate in a game one loss, but managed to quiet the hot Golden Eagle bats in game two to earn the split this afternoon at Jack Funk Field.
Racing out to a 7-0 lead after two full innings, A-B looked poised to sail through the opener of the interdivisional WVIAC contest. However UC would sieze control with a 10 spot in the top of the third and Alderson-Broaddus would get no closer then three runs the rest of the way.
DH/C Gary Valadez drove in four runs, while 2B Trevor Funk went 4 for 5 with 4 runs scored.
Game Two started off much like game one as UC would plate two in the top half of the first, however started Pedro Castellano would settle down and allow just one more run over the next five innings as A-B earned the split with a convincing 8-3 victory.
