Promissory Note and Entrance Counseling

I have a student loan, is there anything that I need to do?

  • Have you accepted your loan on your award letter?
  • Have you signed a promissory note electronically? (See below)
  • Have you completed entrance counseling if you are a first time borrower of either a Stafford or Graduate PLUS loan? Entrance Counseling is required before the first disbursement can be made on either the Stafford or Graduate PLUS at www.mapping-your-future.org.
  • Perkins and Nursing Student Loan Borrowers must stop by the financial aid office to complete a separate promissory note

     A Master Promissory Note must be completed for Stafford Loans, Graduate PLUS Loans, and Parent PLUS Loans. Borrowers must select a lender for their loan. Below is the link for 5 different lenders. Borrowers may select a different lender if they so choose. Fees and borrower benefits may be different from lender to lender.

    Because of federal legislation that reduced federal subsidies to lenders -- not to mention the lack of liquidity in the student loan market-- lenders are changing borrower benefits with little notice. Therefore, assume all borrower benefits are subject to change without notice.
