A graduate of West Virginia University School of Human Resources and Education, I have strong knowledge of curriculum and instruction, administration, and the arts. My experience in writing grant proposals, developing system-wide professional development, instructing the adult learner and designing assessment tools for data analysis are skills that strengthen my service and commitment to educating America’s future. I am currently employed at Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi, West Virginia, where I chair the education department, coordinate the education department’s accreditation process, and teach education courses.

Adjunct Instructor of Doctoral Students Fall 2010-Present
I teach traditional classroom and online courses in Qualitative Research Methods for doctoral students. The rigorous and relevant syllabus was designed to include field experiences, article studies, qualitative dissertation analysis and review, poster presentations, and a lens paper. Final project included a small qualitative methods study and a publishing activity.
First Presbyterian Church 1993-Present
Organist and Pianist for all church services. I accompany the vocal ensembles and bell choirs, and perform in community festivals, concerts, and events. I have provided organ recitals for the community and have the occasion to provide music at wedding and funeral services.

I have the opportunity to collaborate with senior administration in staying current with the college academic initiatives. The council leadership role requires monthly committee and planning sessions in which department and division leaders study the current and future course of academics at AB College.
Alderson Broaddus Master Plan Committee 2011
The master plan committee seeks to represent the mission of Alderson Broaddus College’s strategic plan by keeping buildings and grounds in good repair and promote an aesthetic appeal. The committee meets regularly to provide input to architects on current and future program needs. We work together as a committee to identify the priority needs for campus development so that we can keep pace with the anticipated growing student enrollments.

As department chair, my role is to coordinate the development of our annual budget. Membership on the college budget committee is a way to receive staff development on accounting, procurement, and inventory procedures as well as maintain fiscal accountability to the AB College mission.
Title I Committee of Practitioners 2008-Present
Serve with educational stakeholders throughout the state to review practices and procedures for Title I compliance and monitoring. The committee meets quarterly throughout the year to review and improve the Title I initiatives and to support the program development throughout the state.
WV Teacher of the Year 2003
Served the state as West Virginia’s 2003 Teacher of the Year. I was fortunate to travel throughout the state as a speaker and an ambassador for teachers and to attend the National Teacher of the Year events in Washington, DC and Dallas, TX. Additionally, one high school student from my district attended International Space Camp with me in Huntsville, Alabama.

I have developed a set of skills that helps me to see a vision, identify the steps and timelines needed to accomplish the vision, and to gather the human resources to collaborate for goal attainment. Organization and focus are my two strongest attributes. I thrive in an environment of change and have learned to adjust to and embrace flexibility. My interest and ability in curriculum design have led me to consulting, presenting, and designing learning opportunities for educators. I have served committees to design statewide train-the-trainer initiatives such as the WVDE Content Standards Training. I serve my local district in the development of a 5-yr strategic plan I which committees work together to plan action steps for the school system. This committee presents the plan to the public in an annual meeting. As a musician, I have served as music director, choral conductor, and have organized community choral events for local churches.

Memorable A-B moment:
As a new faculty member at A-B College, I really enjoy our faculty-staff gatherings such as the opening school convocation replete with our regalia, the choral offerings, and the honors bestowed on outstanding faculty and staff. These moments help me to realize the joy of being part of an intellectual and spiritual community.
