AB Women’s Basketball Defeats Urbana 74-67

PHILIPPI, W. Va. -- Alderson Broaddus women’s basketball captured its second win of the season toppling Urbana University 74-67 Tuesday evening at Rex Pyles Arena.

Four Battlers (2-1) scored in double figures against Urbana and were led by sophomore Leah Hurst and senior Amanda Peoples. Peoples drained four 3-pointers and went 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. Hurst went 5-of-9 from the field, knocked down a pair from long distance, grabbed four rebounds and collected four assists.

AB went on a 10-0 run to start the contest and led by 13 points with 1:38 remaining in the first half. The Blue Knights scored eight unanswered to cap the first period and trailed 38-33 at the break. The blue and gold capitalized on seven turnovers by the Blue Knights in the opening period and converted them into 11 points.

Urbana (1-5) was unable to carry its momentum into the second half and shot just 30 percent in the game’s final half.

Sophomore Ciara Geiger was the Blue Knight’s top scorer and compiled 19 points, pulled down four boards and grabbed two steals. Geiger was 5-for-13 shooting with two 3-point field goals. Sophomore Katy Barkley narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.

The Battlers are now 2-0 this season at Rex Pyles Arena.

AB travels to face conference rival West Virginia Wesleyan College Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
