406 freshmen inducted into Battler Family

PHILIPPI, W.Va. – Alderson Broaddus University is excited to welcome the largest freshman class in the College’s history. On Saturday, Aug.18, 2012, 406 freshmen and 41 transfer students moved into their dorms and were inducted into the Battler Family during a special ceremony.

“This is a very historic day for Alderson Broaddus University,” said Tanya Shelton, vice president for enrollment management. “After 52 weeks of recruiting, including admissions counselors meeting them at high schools, college fairs, campus visits, and Discovery Days, they’re here-the largest freshman class in our history.”

During the induction ceremony held in the Coliseum Saturday afternoon, Vice President Shelton officially transitioned the 447 new students from prospective students to members of the Battler family.

The freshman class represents 24 states and 11 international students from five foreign countries.

The new class also began another tradition during orientation when over 400 of the students travelled to ACE Adventure Resort in Oak Hill, W.Va. for a day of fun. They participated in outdoor activities such as white water rafting, zip lining, rock climbing, obstacle and rope courses, and biking. The day was designed for students to meet, make friends, and enjoy the vast activities West Virginia has to offer.
