Alderson Broaddus Men's Basketball Tops Glenville State 105-99 in OT
PHILIPPI, W. Va. -- The Alderson Broaddus men's basketball team won its fourth straight home game 105-99 in overtime against Glenville State Monday at Rex Pyles Arena.
The Battlers (9-3, 7-1 WVIAC) led 51-43 at the break and shot 55.9 percent in the opening period. Seniors O'Dell Eagle (Youngstown, Ohio) and Casey Ainslie (Trenton, Ill.) scored 13 and 14 first half points respectively.
GSC came out of the locker room and flipped the script on A-B, outscoring the Battlers 19-4 in the first five minutes of the second period. Sophomore Jamel Morris scorched the blue and gold defense for 21 points going 5-for-5 from 3-point range and 8-for-8 from the floor.
A-B trailed late into regulation before senior Roy Brown nailed a 3-pointer at 1:31 to bring the Battlers within two and hit a layup to tie the game at 88 with 1:10 left. The Battlers regained their edge under a minute and retook the lead, but a late trey from junior Kevin Gray forced overtime.
Gray splashed home his third 3-pointer of the contest to open the overtime period, but A-B quickly retook the lead and closed out the win.
Morris was the Pioneers' (8-6, 4-5 WVIAC) top scorer and led all scorers with 30 points. He finished 11-for-15 from the field and connected on 7-of-8 from long distance. Junior Lamar Mallory had 19 points and five rebounds, and freshman DJ Blanks finished with 16 points.
The blue and gold were led offensively by Eargle with 23 points and Ainslie added 20. Freshman Richard Lemon (Philadelphia, Pa.) tied Ainslie with a team-high seven rebounds.
A-B won the battle in the paint outscoring the Pioneers 36-16 down low and the Battler bench contributed 41 points, while the GSC backups scored just 14 points.
The Battlers travel to face Concord Thursday and tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
