The Alderson-Broaddus College Brass Choir will hold its thirteenth annual "Brass in the Grass" outdoor concert on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. under a performance tent in the center of the A-B College campus. Admission is free. The public is invited to attend and asked to bring a blanket or folding chair for lawn seating. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be held in Wilcox Chapel.
The 64-member performing ensemble will be comprised of the 2010-11 Brass Choir, alumni and other former members of the group, public school students, community guests, and some specially featured professional brass performers from West Virginia and neighboring states. Selections will include brass ensemble standards and orchestral transcriptions, but also popular folk tunes, jazz tunes, marches and patriotic selections, and even circus music—in both small and large ensembles. There will surely be something for every musical taste. The A-B Brass Choir, under the direction of Dr. Timothy DeWitt, professor of music, is just one of many excellent instrumental and vocal ensembles of A-B College's Department of Music.
