Alderson Broaddus students travel internationally during their college years at one of the highest rates of any small American Baptist university in West Virginia. About 38% of AB graduates have studied or served abroad by the time they walk down College Hill at commencement. The Office of International & Off-Campus Programs supports four kinds of travel: short-term faculty-led travel courses, semester-long exchange partnerships, mission-service trips, and individualized custom placements.
Most short-term programs run during January Term (3–4 weeks) or May Term (2–3 weeks) and carry 3–6 academic credits. Semester programs are typically junior-year, with full credit transfer and AB tuition rates applying (so financial aid travels with you). Mission-service trips are open to all students regardless of major and typically run during Spring Break (1 week) or summer (3–6 weeks).
AB students have studied in 30+ countries in the past decade. Recent destinations: Belize, the United Kingdom, Italy, Austria, Czechia, Poland, Israel, Jordan, Japan, Korea, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Honduras, Spain, France, Greece, the Netherlands, India, Tanzania, South Africa, and Australia. Application processes vary by program; the Office of International Programs can walk every student through the right pathway for their goals, GPA, and budget.
